Frequently asked questions
Why does Clackmatic need Input Monitoring?
macOS only lets an app know that a key was pressed if you grant it Input Monitoring. Clackmatic uses that signal for one thing: playing a sound at the moment you press or release a key. It listens only — it can't change or block your typing — and it never records, stores or sends what you type. The app has no network access at all.
How do I grant the permission?
- Open Clackmatic. On first launch it asks for access and can open the right settings page for you.
- Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring.
- Turn on Clackmatic. If it isn't listed, click + and choose Clackmatic from Applications.
- If macOS asks, choose Quit & Reopen. Otherwise, quit Clackmatic from its menu bar icon and open it again.
The switch is on, but there's still no sound. How do I reset the permission?
Sometimes macOS keeps a stale permission entry (common after updates or reinstalling). To reset it:
- Quit Clackmatic.
- In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, select Clackmatic and click – to remove it.
- Open Clackmatic again and allow access when asked (or add it back with +).
Advanced: you can also reset it from Terminal withtccutil reset ListenEvent com.jorgealdunate.clackmatic
and then reopen the app.
I don't hear any sound. What should I check?
- Is sound turned on? Press ⌃⌥K or check the menu bar icon (sound waves = on).
- Are you on a call? Clackmatic goes silent automatically while your microphone or camera is in use, and while music is playing (if those options are on). It resumes when the call or music ends. You can change this in Settings.
- Output device: in Settings, check which audio output Clackmatic uses, or choose “System output”.
- Volume: check both your Mac's volume and Clackmatic's own volume slider.
- Permission: make sure Input Monitoring is on (see above).
Sound stopped after my Mac woke from sleep or I switched headphones/speakers
Clackmatic recovers automatically after sleep and when the audio output changes (for example, connecting AirPods or a monitor). Give it a second or two. If it stays silent:
- Toggle sound off and on with ⌃⌥K.
- Re-select your output device in Settings.
- Quit and reopen Clackmatic.
If it keeps happening, please write to us with your macOS version and the audio device you use.
How does the hotkey work? Can I change it?
⌃ Control + ⌥ Option + K turns sounds on or off from any app. If another app already uses this shortcut, change it in Clackmatic's Settings.
Does Clackmatic slow down my Mac or drain the battery?
No noticeable impact. Sounds are preloaded and played with a low-latency audio engine, and the app idles when you aren't typing.
What are the typing stats? Are they private?
They're simple counters (keystrokes, clicks, Return dings and profile usage) saved only on your Mac. They never include the text you type and are never sent anywhere. You can reset them in Settings.
How do I start Clackmatic automatically?
Turn on Launch at login in Settings.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit Clackmatic and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Optionally remove it from Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring.
Avanzado (Terminal): tccutil reset ListenEvent com.jorgealdunate.clackmatic
No escucho nada
